Description of Presentation:

Today’s HR professionals and managers have access to an immense amount of information and data. While such information and data can be valuable in guiding decisions and gaining a better understanding of their organization, determining how to effectively use available information presents challenges. During this session, participants will learn how an evidence-based approach to HR management can be beneficial. Specifically, participants will learn about the following:

  • An awareness of what evidence-based HR management is, and how it can be beneficial to both HR professionals and the organization as a whole
  • A step-by-step framework to guide an evidence-based approach to HR management
  • An understanding of the challenges associated with using an evidence-based approach to HR management, as well as ways to address these challenges
  • Tools that HR professionals can use to put an evidence-based approach into action


Presenter Bio:

Angela Heavey is an Assistant Professor in the College of Business at James Madison University, teaching courses on evidence-based decision making and managing and retaining human capital.  In addition to her academic background, Angela has work experience in the private sector, having held HR and supervisory positions in the financial, retail, and manufacturing industries. holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University, a Master of Science in Industrial Relations and Human Resources from the Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Colby-Sawyer College. She is an active member of the Academy of Management, the Society for Industrial & Organizational Psychology, the Society for Human Resource Management, and the Shenandoah Valley Society for Human Resource Management.


The location for the June and July meetings will be at Common Ground next door to “The Gateway Café”. 15 Angela Court suite D in Fishersville 22939. They are also located near Dominion Outdoors. 64 East to the Fishersville Exit, take a right about a mile down on the left. Just past SAW CrossFit.
