VASHRM State Conference Registration is open!

The conference planning committee for the VA SHRM State Conference is busy making preparations for the conference. They are excited about the event and have many excellent speakers, sponsors and exhibitors planned.  The conference will be March 12-15 at the Williamsburg Lodge. 

Early Bird Pricing is in effect: people who sign up before December 31, 2016, get a really good deal - $499 for the whole conference or $150 off the price.

SVSHRM announces Emily Sterrett Memorial Scholarship

We are currently accepting applicants for a scholarship to pay the course fee for the Essentials of Human Resources Management (EHRM) course  being offered through the Outreach & Engagement department at James Madison UniversityTo be considered, applicants should submit a document of 250 words or less informing the SVSHRM Board why they are taking the course and why they should be selected for the scholarship.   Please submit your materials electronically to Chuck Flick, 2015 SVSHRM Scholarship Chair.  His email address is cflick@brc-online.org

The 2015 deadline to submit your document for  scholarship consideration for the  Essentials of Human Resources course is April 3, 2015.

The SVSHRM Board has decided to offer  scholarships in memory of a long time SVSHRM Member and board chair, Emily Sterrett.   Emily passed away in October of 2013 after a long battle with cancer. She was an active member in our chapter and served as co-chair of the SVSHRM Certification Committee for over ten years.   Emily was responsible for and directed the Essentials of Human Resources class and the PHR/SPHR study course through SHRM.  With this, the board has decided to offer two scholarships in her memory; one for admission and materials for the EHRM course, and one for the Certification preparation course. 

We have awarded the 2015 Certification Preparation course scholarship  to Sarah Conner.  Congratulations Sarah!

 


 

 


 

HR Leadership Awards

The mission of Human Resource Leadership Awards of Greater Washington is to be the leading advocate for recognizing executive HR professionals and emerging HR leaders whose exemplary leadership, strategic vision and commitment to continuous development and professional engagement significantly advances the importance of the HR function in creating long term business value.

The Human Resource (HR) Leadership Awards (HRLA) of Greater Washington recognize the outstanding achievement of the area’s human resources professionals in the following categories:

Leadership

Strategic Alignment

Innovation

Mentoring

Corporate Social Responsibility

Ethical Behavior

All Nominees must be employed in an HR function. The awards are independently judged and awarded by a panel of HR and organization executives.  The judges evaluate each entry based on its merits and responses to the category questions and therefore judges will NOT move nominees from one category to another. For an award category to be judged there must be a minimum of 5 entries in the category. Application responses will be used for public consumption and edited as needed to promote the finalists and winners; therefore, we encourage submission of thoughtful and complete responses without confidential information.

 

Application submission deadline is March 22, 2015.

To be considered, applicants should submit a document of 250 words or less informing the SVSHRM Board why they are taking the course and why they should be selected for the scholarship.
