James Madison University's Human Resources Department now has an opportunity for an HR Consultant. The position requires broad and significant Human Resources experience and knowledge of relevant processes, policies and legislation. Qualities such as friendliness, professionalism and adaptability are paramount. Since the JMU HR department functions on the customer service model, this position calls for previous customer service experience in Human Resources and a demonstrated understanding of the fundamentals of effective service.
The HR Consultant provides advice and support to JMU's managers, supervisors, faculty, administrators and employees on such elements as compensation, position classification, employee development and employee relations.
Candidates should have considerable Human Resources experience and knowledge of relevant processes, policies and legislation. The successful candidate will also have a proven track record of customer service success, exceptional interpersonal skills, effective communication (oral and written), positive results and excellent teamwork. An undergraduate degree and/or equivalent work experience is required. Previous experience with compensation and employee relations will be helpful, as well as an understanding of relevant HRIS systems. Experience in higher education and/or Virginia state government is not required, but will be a plus. PHR or SPHR is preferred.
