May 22 Supervisory Seminar, topic is EEOC, with speaker Marilyn Booker from the EEOC, Also, the presentation will cover the laws enforced by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, The Americans with Disabilities Act, The Age Discrimination in Employment Act and The Equal Pay Act) and how to prevent and correct discrimination in the workplace.

The learning objectives are to raise awareness of what constitutes illegal employment discrimination, to raise the awareness of managers and employers of their responsibility to prevent workplace discrimination and harassment, and to identify the actions that managers and employers should take to prevent and address discrimination and harassment in the workplace.

Now you can view Shenandoah Valley SHRM Pre Approved Events by visiting www.hrci.org  Once on the site, place your cursor on the Pre Approved tab on the top bar. When the options show, choose and click on Searchable Directory of Approved Events.  This will take you to a screen where you can key in Shenandoah Valley SHRM in the provided name box.  Clicking on the submit button brings up a list of  all of the future programs for Shenandoah Valley SHRM. The city location of the event is also provided.  Entering a different chapter name will show the listings for that chapter. Options for the type of credit (General, Strategic, International, California) are available.  You may also search the type of activity.

Dates: September 22 to November 17, 2008 in preparation for the December 1, 2008 to January 31, 2009 testing window.

Times: Mondays 5:30-7:30- length subject to change depending on session content.

Location: Bridgewater College- Room 124 McKinney Building (large columned building opposite the campus).  If you are traveling on I-81, use the Mt. Crawford-Bridgewater exit (Exit 240) and follow State Route 257, which is the northern boundary of the campus.  

Requirements:

• Must be a member of the Shenandoah Valley Society of Human Resource Management Chapter.
• Must purchase SHRM Learning System (the Chapter will purchase these for a reduced fee of $425 and will sell them at cost to those who register) Earlier editions of SHRM Learning Systems cannot be used.

To get this special price, write a check payable to SVSHRM for $425 no later than July 1, 2008 with delivery of the check to the SVSHRM Treasurer Tony Resto. This will allow us to deliver your SHRM Learning System booklets before the first class.

Examination Information:

• Deadline date to register with HRCI to take the certification exam:     October 10, 2008. 
• Cost to take the exam:  $75 application fee (non-refundable) plus:
• PHR - $175 if SHRM (national) member; $225 non-member
• SPHR - $300 if SHRM (national) member; $350 non-member
